I’m pretty familiar with Skodas. My family owned three along the years. Our first one was a 120 (remember those?!), a green one, very 911 like 😛, engine in the back, rear wheel drive 😀
Fifteen years later we bought our second one. A first generation Skoda Octavia and a few years later we got a quite cool 1.8TSI Skoda Octavia 3. And let me tell you, a 180HP Skoda was a pretty unique car at that time.
It was a pretty cool package to be honest with you. And so when the opportunity to drive the facelift Octavia I was very curious to see how much the car evolved.
Thankfully I was able to drive the most powerful and biggest variant on the market: the Octavia RS 245 Combi. Or Estate, depending on what part of the globe you’re located in. And let me tell you, this being a press car, it came fully loaded. Check out the video below for a detailed walkaround of the car.
Right about now you must be thinking: a 41.000 euro Skoda? Are you mad?! Well considering all the options this car had, I’d say it’s not that bad.
But anyway, onto more important stuff. How does this car compare to the old one I had? Well unfortunately nothing has really changed on the inside. I mean, sure, you’ve got a new button-less infotainment system, some pretty cool sports seats but … that’s about it.
And honestly I was expecting a bit more on the build quality side. Even though the price increased on the new generation, materials have stayed pretty much the same and unfortunately the doors still have no soft touch material on them.
I’m not really going to talk about the new exterior design, since that’s a very touchy subject but if you want to see how this car drives, check out my driving impressions video down below.
